History of the Joe Corley Detention Facility

In June 2004, Montgomery County issued a request for proposal for operation and management services for the Montgomery County Jail.

In 2008, the one-story Joe Corley facility opened and began accepting federal inmates. The 167,000-square-foot facility was built at a price of $44.8 million. The Florida-based The GEO Group Inc. has operated the jail for Montgomery County since it opened in 2008.

In 2013, Montgomery County commissioners sold the Joe Corley Detention Facility for $65 million in cash to The GEO Group Inc. In addition to the $65 million in cash, GEO was required to pay Montgomery county an annual administrative fee of $500,000 to handle the paperwork between GEO, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the two federal agencies that use the medium security jail.

Before planning your visitation, you should call the facility to find out the visiting hours because they are subject to change. The first step is conducting a search related to the Joe Corley Detention Center by looking up or searching for information about an inmate.

According to the website, the visiting hours at the Joe Corley Detention Facility depending on whether you are visiting a male or female. For a male, visitation is on Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

For females, the visitation on Monday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. To visit a person being detained, you must present a valid government-issued identification card. The visitation will not exceed 30 minutes. Any child under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. An immigration attorney is permitted to visit a client 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
